STORY:
Veteran drama artiste Aadhimoolam (Vijay Sethupathi), fondly called as Ayya by his admirers, dedicates his life to stage and refuses to act in films despite getting lucrative offers.
For him, acting is something which is performed in front of the audience and not in front of the camera. He thinks, eats and breathes acting, and one day, he breathes his last on the stage itself.
But, even after death, Ayya continues to act on the stage. Yes, his spirit enters the bodies of artistes and performs. This is found by Ayya’s friend and drama director Parasuraman (Mouli).
Even as Ayya’s grandson has to undergo a surgery on his head, Ayya’s spirit enters the body of a member of the drama troupe (Rajkumar) and starts acting in films.
This information spreads in cinema industry and producers and directors now start waiting for the dates of Ayya’s spirit. What happens after that forms the rest of Seethakathi.
ANALYSIS:
After Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012), director Balaji Tharaneetharan has tied up with Vijay Sethupathi once again for Seethakathi, a film which highlights the feelings of actors.
While doing so, it also takes comical digs at happenings in film industry and the society and conveys a message of two.
Vijay Sethupathi, the great actor that he is, appears as actor and the role is like a cakewalk for him. But the hardwork he has put in terms of makeup is praiseworthy.
Mouli has bagged a meaty role after a long gap, while there are Rajkumar, Ramya Nambeesan, Archana, Bharathiraja, Gayathrie, Mahendran, Bhagavathi Perumal among others in the cast.
Govind Vasantha’s music is a big plus, while Saraskanth T K’s cinematography is another highlight. Seethakathi is for those who love content-oriented movies. But those hard core fans of Vijay Sethupathi may get disappointed.
