STORY:
Viji (Jyothika), who failed thrice in Plus Two, is now a homemaker. She is often ridiculed by her sisters (Sindhu Shekharan and Seema Taneja) and father (Mohan Ram), since she has not achieved anything big in life.
But her pillars of support are her husband Balu (Vidharth) and her school-going son. She leads a happy life by taking part in contests conducted by media houses and others.
As she emerges victorious in one such competition conducted by a FM radio channel, she is invited to the station to receive price. But she ends up becoming a RJ there.
She renames herself as Madhu and hosts a late night show talking huskily to strangers about love and other personal issues. The show becomes a huge success and she becomes very famous.
This poses a set of problems to her as she finds it tough to balance her profession and family. How she comes out of it forms the rest of Kaatrin Mozhi.
ANALYSIS:
Kaatrin Mozhi, directed by Radha Mohan, is a honest and beautiful remake of Bollywood hit Tumhari Sulu. Though certain portions have been Tamilised, they have only added value to the product.
If it was Vidya Balan who won the hearts in the Hindi version, Jyothika walks away with all honours in the Tamil remake. As a woman who sees things in a positive manner, she makes us fall in love with her character.
Vidharth as loving husband who is crazy about his wife has done a neat job. Others in the cast, including Lakshmi Manchu as the head of radio station, are tailor-made for their respective roles and have done their parts well.
A H Kaashif has scored music and he is welcome addition to Tamil film music scenario. Mahesh Muthuswami’s visuals are catchy, while Praveen K L’s editing is meaningful.
Produced by G Dhananjayan’s BOFTA Media Works and Creative Entertainers, Kaatrin Mozhi, with very less flaws, spreads positivity and cheer all across.
