Power & Poignant

STORY:

Power Paandi (Rajkiran) is a retired stunt master who lives with his son Raghavan (Prasanna), daughter-in-law (Chaya Singh) and grandchildren.

His son wants Paandi to lead a happy and peaceful life with grandchildren. But Paandi, an extrovert, wants to work and be occupied.

One day, he fights with a gang of local drug peddlers, earning the wrath of his son. As things get tough between Paandi and Raghavan, the former leaves home and goes on a road trip to explore life.

He meets his first love (Revathy) in Hyderabad. What happens next? Does Paandi manage to find the happiness he missed in his life? Power Paandi answers these questions and more.

ANALLYSIS

Roll out a red carpet to welcome Dhanush as director, for the national award winning actor proves that he is a skilled filmmaker too (perhaps it runs in his genes thanks to father Kasthuriraja and brother Selvaraghavan).

He has conceived a touching knot and developed into a poignant tale, besides presenting it as a meaningful movie. A little overdone, it could have landed him on the wrong foot. But Dhanush has struck a fine balance.

To say Rajkiran rocks would be an understatement as the whole film is on his shoulders. Prasanna has lived as a loving son, while Revathy and Chaya Singh have delivered goods. And there are Dhanush (as young Rajkiran) and Madonna Sebastian (young Revathy).

Sean Roldan has almost recreated Ilayaraja in songs and background music, while Velraj’s angles speak a lot. At some places, songs act as speed-breakers and the love episodes between Dhanush and Madonna are cliched.

But for these minor hiccups, ‘Pa Paandi’ is a feel-good emotional entertainer which leaves a strong message to the audience- both elders and youngsters.
