Systemic failure: Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan denounce Jana Nayagan leak
Actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have strongly condemned the online leak of Jana Nayagan, calling it both a moment of “shock and pain” and a sign of deeper systemic issues.
While Rajinikanth urged strict action against those responsible, Kamal Haasan described the leak as a consequence of delays and lapses within the certification process.
The sharp reactions come after large portions of the film surfaced online, triggering widespread concern across the industry.
Both actors stressed that piracy is not just an isolated incident but a threat to the ecosystem that sustains cinema.
Several actors have voiced concern over the leak. Vishal called the situation “truly disheartening”, adding that “so much of effort and dedication and work [has been] thrown down the drain”.
Reflecting as a long-time admirer of Vijay, he said he hoped audiences would still get to experience the film in theatres, even if circumstances change its release format.
RJ Balaji described the leak as “shocking and heartbreaking”, noting that he “can’t imagine the state of people who are involved in making the film”. He added, “This is bad on so many levels.”
Suriya issued a direct appeal to the public, calling the incident “heartbreaking and unfair — an entire team’s passion reduced to this”. He urged audiences “not to watch, share, or discuss the film”, adding that he stands with the team and condemns the act as “unforgivable”.
The makers, KVN Productions, confirmed that unauthorised individuals illegally accessed, copied, and circulated footage from the Jana Nayagan across social media platforms and pirate websites.
They described the breach as a serious case of digital piracy, warning that all forms of engagement, from viewing to sharing, constitute a criminal offence under copyright laws.
