Suriya’s side issues clarification on tax issue

Rajsekar Pandian, director and co-producer at Suriya’s production house 2D Entertainment took to Twitter to clarify that all the dues, including the income tax and interest, were paid with absolute cooperation.

He wrote, “ITax and Interest there on were paid and adjusted in totality with absolute cooperation, as on today there are no dues payable from our side! The dispute is only regarding refund of Interest by department! Appeal will be preferred on receipt and perusal of the original order (sic).”

It may be noted that Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed a writ petition filed by Suriya seeking waiver of interest for the income tax assessment for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.

According to the order by the Income Tax Department, the actor was asked to pay over Rs 3.11 crore in 2011.

The order came after the department conducted a search operation at the Soorarai Pottru actor’s premises including his T Nagar residence, Boat Club area bungalow and his close associates’ offices in 2010.
