Sudden rainfall lashes KTCC region, IMD predicts more rains

Various parts of the city and the suburbs including Chrompet, Ambattur, Ayappakkam, Anna Nagar, East Tambaram and many other areas received rains today.

“Light thunderstorm and lightning with Moderate rain likely to occur Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts at isolated places during next two hours,” the Regional Meteorological Centre said in a post on X.

Yesterday, a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal and Bangladesh coast made landfall between Sagar Island and Khepupara (Bangladesh), close to Raidighi (West Bengal). It weakened into a depression early this morning (May 30) over Bangladesh, and is expected to move north-northeast while continuing to weaken.

Over the past seven days, Avalanche in the Nilgiris district recorded a heavy 140 cm of rainfall. Upper Bhavani (Nilgiris) and Chinnakalar (Coimbatore) saw between 85-95 cm, while Emerald (Nilgiris) and Valparai PTO (Coimbatore) received around 60-70 cm.
