Story theft claim against Parasakthi: Madras HC orders probe

The Madras High Court has ordered a probe into a story theft claim against the upcoming film Parasakthi.

The film, which features a star-studded cast including Sivakarthikeyan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, is currently scheduled for a major Pongal release on January 10, 2026.

The legal battle was initiated by assistant director KV Rajendran (also known as Varun Rajendran).

In his lawsuit, Rajendran alleges that the screenplay of Parasakthi is a direct plagiarism of his original script titled Semmozhi, which he registered with the South Indian Film Writers Association (SWAN) back in 2010.

The petitioner claims his story revolves around the anti-Hindi imposition movement in Tamil Nadu, a script he allegedly shared with the late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, who reportedly praised the work.

Rajendran stated he shared the script with producer Salem Dhanasekaran, who allegedly passed it on to director Sudha Kongara.

It is noted that Sudha Kongara had previously announced a project titled Purananooru with Suriya, which was later put on hold. The petitioner claims that the same story has now been retooled as Parasakthi.

Justice SM Subramaniam, presiding over the case, has issued a notice to the film’s director, Sudha Kongara, and production house Dawn Pictures.

Parasakthi is one of the most anticipated films of 2026, marking GV Prakash’s 100th film as a music composer and the Tamil debut of actress Sreeleela. If the probe finds merit in Rajendran’s claims, the film’s theatrical and digital release could face a serious injunction just days before the festival rush.
