Stella Maris College organised a Rally to Create Awareness on Drug Abuse
- Over 150 students, 5 Programme Officers (NSS, YRC, RRC units) participated in the rally
- The student-led rally covered the area from Gemini flyover to Stella Maris College campus and was held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am
As a part of the World Drug Day initiative, this year the Enforcement Bureau CID, Tamil Nadu and the State NSS Cell Tamil Nadu jointly organized an awareness programme for Drug Abuse today. The NSS Units of Stella Maris College organised a rally from Gemini flyover to the College campus. The rally was flagged off by Dr. Sr. Stella Mary fmm, Principal i/c, Stella Maris College.
Dr. Sr. Stella Mary fmm, in her address encouraged the students to say a firm No to drugs, and a big Yes: to Yoga, to Meditation and to a beautiful and balanced life filled with positivity. She encouraged the gathering to follow healthy living practices and a drug free lifestyle in order to ensure a better quality of life. She thanked the NSS, YRC and RRC offices of the College for their efforts.
Dr. Fancy V.F., Programme Officer during the awareness rally elaborated on the significance of the event by emphasising this year’s United Nations Office on Drugs and crime (UNODC) theme, “People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention”. The objective of the rally was to raise awareness on prevention of the usage of drugs, treating individuals under the influence of drugs with empathy and respect and combat the issue with compassion.
Volunteers carried placards with slogans against, posters adhering to the theme ‘Drive Against Drugs’ in order to create awareness among the public in Tamil and English. The students of Stella Maris College Anti-Drug Abuse Club were also participants of the rally. The College stands in support with the Government of Tamil Nadu in their fight against the usage, consumption and manufacturing of illegal narcotic substances and in order to eradicate them from the State.
