Stella Maris College organised a Peace March to stand in solidarity with the people of Manipur
*Over 2100 students, 105 faculty participated in the peace march
To express our solidarity for the people of Manipur, the College organised a peace march led by Dr. Sr. Stella Mary fmm, Principal i/c, Stella Maris College. This Peace March symbolises our unity with those who have lost family and friends due to the violence raging in the state of Manipur. We march for the return of peace to the state, for a peaceful resolution of differences, for understanding and empathy to rule, for reparation for loss of homes, belongings, injustice, and above all redress of inequities
and damage to the land.
In her invocatory address, Dr. Sr. Stella Mary fmm prayed for peace to return to the troubled region and through dialogue and mutual understanding, resolve all differences between the warring peoples. She exhorted them to call upon their faith and trust in humanity for the will to live in peaceful co-existence amidst differences.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Padma V Mckertich, faculty, Department of English and Lead Member of the Peace Education Project Team, United Board for Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA), stated, “As participants of a two-year project titled Youth for Peace and we stand with the College community in expressing solidarity with the victims of the ongoing violence in Manipur. We undertake this march to heighten awareness about the need to take immediate steps to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Manipur and to ensure that such violence does not occur in the future.”
By the non-violent action of this silent march through our campus, we hope to bring awareness of the need for a swift and lasting return to law and order in the state, and restitution for the damage caused to the communities living there.
