Stalin’s model failing in Tamil Nadu: Palaniswami

AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has strongly condemned the brutal murder of an elderly couple, Ramasamy and Pakkiam, in Vilangattu Valasu village near Sivasigiri, Erode district.

Reacting to the gruesome incident, EPS said, “It is shocking to hear that an elderly couple living alone in their farmhouse was brutally murdered and robbed of 15 sovereigns of gold. This is not just a crime; it is a direct reflection of the collapse of law and order in Tamil Nadu under the DMK regime.”

Referring to Chief Minister Stalin’s recent statement during the police budget session, EPS remarked, “When the Chief Minister proudly claimed that law and order is exemplary in Tamil Nadu, is this what he meant? Is this the hallmark of his so-called model governance?”

EPS went on to list a string of similar violent incidents that have occurred since the DMK came to power, exposing what he called a pattern of unchecked crime and administrative failure.

“Let me remind the people of Tamil Nadu that this is not an isolated incident. On May 1, 2022, an elderly man was beaten to death near Chennimalai and 27 sovereigns of gold were stolen. On September 9, 2023, an aged couple was hacked to death in the same area for 15 sovereigns and Rs. 60,000. On November 29, 2024, three family members were murdered near Palladam. On March 13, 2025, another elderly couple was hacked to death in Avinashi. And just last month, a grandmother and grandson were bludgeoned to death in Thalavadi. How many more such incidents must occur before the DMK government wakes up?”

He added, “These are not ‘individual incidents’ as the Stalin government would like to claim. This is a clear indication of a deteriorating law and order situation. Tamil Nadu is no longer safe for the elderly, and fear has replaced peace across rural homes.”

Condemning the state administration, EPS said, “Under Stalin’s so-called Dravidian Model, the people of Tamil Nadu can’t sleep peacefully at night. The DMK government should hang its head in shame.”
