Stalin raises north-south divide issue, says south is contributing to north

During his tour of Tamil Nadu’s Kongu belt, Chief Minister MK Stalin emphasized the significant role southern states, particularly Tamil Nadu, have played in driving the nation’s economic growth, particularly in supporting the development of northern states. He credited Tamil Nadu’s success to its unique “Dravidian Model” of governance, which he described as inclusive, people-centric, and focused on sustainable development.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the Dravidian Model is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, regardless of their political affiliation. He further noted that this model’s popularity has increased, with the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) gaining more support in recent elections, especially in the comparison between Assembly and Parliament polls. “The people’s support for our government has only grown,” he added, highlighting their expectations for further progress.

Stalin proudly stated that Tamil Nadu is now the second-largest economy in India, a position the state has achieved through consistent development over the last fifty years. The state also leads in urbanization and the implementation of development projects in line with global standards set by the United Nations, he said.

Reflecting on the words of the DMK founder CN Annadurai, Stalin recalled how Annadurai had once pointed out the disparity between the flourishing North and the declining South. “But today, the South is thriving, and more specifically, it is Tamil Nadu that is significantly contributing to the growth of the North,” Stalin declared, reaffirming the state’s crucial role in national development.

Further reinforcing his administration’s focus on growth, Stalin expressed confidence that the DMK’s influence and popularity would continue to grow. He expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the 2026 elections, citing the warm reception he had received during his tour as a clear indicator of the public’s support for the government. “The enthusiasm from the people assures me that DMK will win in 2026,” he said.
