Stalin inaugurates Rs 9,000 cr Tata Motors–Jaguar Land Rover Plant in Ranipet
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, on Monday, inaugurated Tata Motors’ new passenger vehicle and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) manufacturing facility at Panapakkam in Ranipet district, formally marking the start of operations at the greenfield plant.
The facility is located inside the SIPCOT industrial complex. It will assemble completely knocked-down (CKD) units for JLR models and add production capacity for Tata Motors’ own passenger vehicles.
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Group, attended the inauguration along with state ministers, senior government officials, and executives from Tata Motors and JLR.
Operations at the plant began on February 9, 2026. The first vehicle to be manufactured there is the Range Rover Evoque, which is being locally assembled for JLR.
The Panapakkam facility will supplement JLR CKD assembly already carried out at Tata Motors’ plant in Chakan near Pune.
During Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd.’s Q3 FY26 earnings call, Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra said capacity constraints at Chakan and limited expansion room at other locations led the company to activate the Tamil Nadu site.
