Special Electoral Roll (SIR) revision removes over 22 lakh names across three states

More than 22 lakh names have been omitted from draft electoral rolls released in Odisha, Manipur and Sikkim following the first phase of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision exercise.

Odisha recorded the largest number of deletions, with over 20 lakh names removed. According to election officials, the revisions were based on factors such as deaths, migration, duplicate registrations and voters who could not be verified during the house-to-house survey.

Manipur’s draft roll excluded over 1.58 lakh names for similar reasons, while Sikkim removed more than 37,000 entries.

Election authorities have opened a claims and objections period until August 4, allowing eligible citizens to seek inclusion or correct discrepancies. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on September 6.
