SPB receives Padma Vibhushan posthumously, SPB Charan collects it
Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was awarded with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in India.
He was awarded posthumously for his contribution to the world of art at New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The award was collected by the late singer’s son SP Charan. SPB, who had worked as a singer, actor, music director, dubbing artist and film producer in multiple languages, died last year following coronavirus complications.
The singer was 74. He was admitted to a Chennai hospital in August 2020 after he tested positive for Covid-19. On September 25, he breathed his last.
SP Balasubrahmanyam has been conferred Padma Vibhushan, ten years after he received Padma Bhushan.
Singer KS Chithra, with whom Balasubrahmanyam sang several duets, also received the Padma Bhushan.
