SIR work to commence in TN in a week: ECI tells HC
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has informed the Madras High Court that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu will commence next week.
The ECI made this submission during the hearing of a petition filed by former AIADMK MLA S. Sathyanarayanan, who had alleged that around 13,000 AIADMK supporters’ names were wrongly removed from the voter list in the T. Nagar constituency.
The SIR exercise is part of a nationwide process to comprehensively update and verify voter lists ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, which are due in approximately six to seven months.
The revision process aims to add new eligible voters, correct discrepancies, and delete the names of those no longer qualified.
The ECI assured the court of its commitment to transparency and accuracy, leading the court to direct the ECI to submit the Supreme Court order related to the SIR case concerning poll-bound Bihar for reference.
