Sharp increase in Covid cases in TN, more restrictions in store?
As Covid-19 continues to spread across Tamil Nadu, the state government has intensified its fight against the disease. It is said that more restrictions will be implemented in the days to come.
Tamil Nadu reported 1,594 fresh cases on Sunday, pushing up the total tally to 27,51,128. As many as 9,304 persons are undergoing treatment.
Among the fresh cases were six air travellers from the United Arab Emirates, two from Singapore and one traveller each from Canada and the U.S. Two passengers each from Karnataka, Tripura and West Bengal and one passenger each from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bihar were also found to have been infected. They had arrived by road.
Covid-19 patients who are fully vaccinated and have been affected by the Omicron variant in Tamil Nadu will be offered virtual treatment via home isolation, said state health minister Ma Subramanian on Sunday.
“When there is an increase in Omicron-affected cases (in Tamil Nadu), the vaccinated patients affected by Omicron will be offered treatment under home isolation and those who have not been vaccinated and asymptomatic will be placed under constant monitoring by a team. Virtual treatment will be commenced soon in the state,” said Subramanian.
