Sasikala visits Jayalalithaa memorial, first since release from prison
Former General Secretary of AIADMK and Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s confidante VK Sasikala today visited Jaya’s memorial and paid her respect.
This is her first visit to Jayalalithaa’s memorial since her release following her four-year-sentence in the disproportionate assets case.
Despite distancing herself from active politics, Sasikala’s visit to Jayalalithaa’s memorial one day prior to the party’s 50th founding day has got politicians and political observers talking.
The visit comes days after AIADMK was defeated in the rural local body poll elections. The ruling DMK swept the polls held in the nine reconstituted districts, including Kanchipuram, relegating the AIADMK to a distant second position.
Of the total 153 district panchayat wards, the DMK and AIADMK bagged 139 and two seats, respectively. Of the 1,421 panchayat union wards, the DMK and AIADMK won 977 and 212 seats, respectively.
