Rashmika Mandanna calls for stricter cybercrime laws and tougher penalties

Actor Rashmika Mandanna has been an active voice against AI misuse and cybercrimes. Ever since a deepfake video of Mandanna went viral on social media in November 2023, she has voiced her opinions on the matter quite candidly.

Rashmika recently shared a stern opinion on the issue, calling for “strict and unforgiving punishment” for offenders.

In an X post tagging Cyberdost, the official handle of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, Rashmika began with the quote, “When truth can be manufactured, discernment becomes our greatest defence.” She added, “AI is a force for progress, but its misuse to create vulgarity and target women signals a deep moral decline in certain people.”

Talking about how the internet is no longer the go-to source for verified information, she wrote, “Remember, the internet is no longer a mirror of truth. It is a canvas where anything can be fabricated. Let us rise above misuse and use AI to build a more dignified and progressive society.”

Finally, Rashmika urged people to be more responsible about the way they use AI. She wrote, “Choose responsibility over recklessness,” before issuing a stern message to those who continue to misuse technology, adding, “If people cannot act like humans, then strict and unforgiving punishment must be served to them.”

Actor Keerthy Suresh also recently raised concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on privacy after discovering morphed images of herself circulating on social media. The actor described the emotional toll of seeing her photos manipulated by AI technology, stating that it has become a growing issue for both celebrities and the public.
