Rajnath Singh inaugurates BrahMos Aerospace Testing Facility at Lucknow

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile production unit at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor in Lucknow.

The facility is designed to manufacture 80 to 100 missiles annually.

Built at a cost of Rs 300 crore, the production unit will produce the BrahMos missiles, which has a range of 290 to 400 km and a top speed of Mach 2.8.

Developed by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India and Russia, the missile can be launched from land, sea, or air and follows a “fire and forget” guidance system.

From the newly launched Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow, 80 to 100 BrahMos missiles will be produced annually. In addition, 100 to 150 next-generation BrahMos missiles will also be manufactured each year.

Rajnath Singh said, the inauguration of Brahmos integration and testing facility will help in further strengthening India’s defence prowess.

The Union Minister said, the inauguration of this facility is also important because today is National Technology Day.

He said, on this day in 1998, under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the scientists showed India’s strength to the world by conducting nuclear tests in Pokhran.
