Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 races towards a major box-office milestone
Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is reportedly enjoying a strong theatrical run, with industry estimates putting its worldwide box-office collection at approximately ₹477 crore within its first five days.
According to figures attributed to box-office tracker Sacnilk, the Nelson-directed sequel collected around ₹42 crore in India on Monday. Its reported domestic gross has reached approximately ₹288 crore, contributing to the film’s impressive global total.
The film also recorded a major opening-day performance. Reports place its worldwide opening collection at ₹125.25 crore, making it Rajinikanth’s second-biggest opening to date. The figure trails Coolie, which reportedly opened with around ₹150 crore worldwide.
If the current momentum continues, Jailer 2 could challenge the record for the highest-grossing Tamil film. That position is currently attributed in the report to Rajinikanth’s 2.0, which earned approximately ₹670 crore worldwide.
Audience reactions to the sequel have been varied. While some viewers have raised concerns about pacing and narrative inconsistencies in the second half, the opening portion has received considerable praise.
Director Nelson’s handling of the ensemble cast has been a particular talking point. Namo Narayana, who plays Moorthy, has drawn attention among viewers, while the film’s extensive lineup of new and returning performers has added to its appeal.
The cast includes Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Hrithik Roshan, S.J. Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Jackie Shroff, Apeksha Porwal, Mithun Chakraborty and Hakkim Shah.
Returning performers include Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu, Vinayakan, Shivarajkumar, Jaffer Sadiq and Mohanlal.
The film’s early box-office figures suggest substantial audience interest, although its eventual position among Tamil cinema’s biggest commercial successes will depend on how well it sustains collections in the coming days. The reported totals should be treated as industry estimates rather than independently audited figures.
