Rain likely in several northern Tamil Nadu districts as cyclonic circulation persists

An upper-air cyclonic circulation over the north coastal region of Tamil Nadu is expected to trigger rainfall across several parts of the state on Sunday, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

The weather department has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Kallakurichi, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry.

In the Cauvery Delta region, heavier rainfall is expected in districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai, along with the Karaikal area. These locations may also experience strong winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph.

Rainfall data from the previous 24 hours showed that Nalumukku in Tirunelveli district received the highest precipitation in the state at 7 cm. Dharmapuri district followed with 6 cm of rainfall during the same period.

Temperature readings indicated significant variation across Tamil Nadu. Madurai registered the state’s highest daytime temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, while Kodaikanal recorded the lowest temperature among the hill stations at 12.7 degrees Celsius.

For Chennai, meteorologists have predicted partly cloudy conditions through the day, with the possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas.
