Rahul Gandhi convoy incident: Manickam Tagore seeks answers from Amit Shah
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to explain the circumstances surrounding an incident involving Rahul Gandhi’s convoy in Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement issued on Monday, Tagore expressed concern over a collision involving vehicles in the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition’s convoy on the Purvanchal Expressway.
He questioned how adequate security could not be ensured for a prominent constitutional functionary and demanded clarification on whether there had been any shortcomings in the arrangements.
Tagore also asked who was responsible for safeguarding Gandhi and called for accountability over the incident.
He maintained that the issue went beyond a road accident, raising broader questions about the protection provided to senior political leaders.
While acknowledging that political disagreements are an inevitable part of democratic life, the Congress leader stressed that such differences must never compromise the safety of individuals holding important constitutional positions.
Tagore urged the Union Home Minister to address the concerns and explain whether any security lapses had occurred.
