“Pyaar Prema Kalyanam” Movie Review
“A playful take on love, marriage and changing traditions.”
A delightful and refreshing rom-com, Pyaar Prema Kalyanam puts a playful spin on conventional ideas of marriage, blending warmth, humour and youthful charm. The film begins with an intriguing reversal of tradition: what if the bride chooses to stay with her family instead of leaving home after marriage? Through this unconventional setup, the story explores love, relationships, family expectations and evolving gender roles with an engaging and light-hearted touch.
The story revolves around Pavithra aka Pavi (Saanve Megghana), a spirited and independent influencer who is deeply attached to her family. Even after marriage, she refuses to leave her home. Instead, her husband Elan moves into her family house, suddenly finding himself in an unfamiliar environment where he has to adjust to new routines, responsibilities and relatives. What initially feels unusual gradually becomes an engaging test of their relationship.
The film’s biggest strength is its light-hearted approach to domestic situations. Elan’s discomfort at his in-laws’ home, his confusion about household routines and his attempts to fit into the family create several genuinely amusing moments. The ration card and ATM card confusion is particularly funny. More importantly, Elan’s transformation from a carefree Dubai-returned youngster into a responsible husband gives the character a satisfying emotional journey.
The role reversal also adds freshness to the narrative. Rather than turning its social idea into a serious lecture, the film uses humour to show how challenging it can be when traditional expectations are reversed. Elan’s gradual understanding of family, responsibility and relationships makes his journey both relatable and enjoyable.
Elan, making his acting debut while also directing, brings effortless charm and natural comic timing to the role. Saanve Megghana gives Pavi confidence and individuality, while her chemistry with Elan adds warmth to their relationship. Radhika Sarathkumar is especially effective as Pavi’s mother, bringing affection, authority and humour to the family dynamics. Yogi Babu, M.S. Bhaskar, Geetha Kailasam, Elango Kumaravel, Senthil and Maran strengthen the lively ensemble.
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s soulful music complements the romantic and emotional moments beautifully. Overall, Pyaar Prema Kalyanam is a breezy, feel-good entertainer that approaches familiar marriage traditions with a fresh perspective. Its message is simple and positive: marriage need not mean abandoning one’s roots; it can be about two people finding their own way to build a happy life together.
