“PT Sir,” Movie Review
A captivating movie that offers valuable lessons wrapped in a story that entertains.
“PT Sir,” directed by Karthik Venugopalan, presents a compelling story centered around Kanagavel (Hip Hop Tamizha/Aadhi), a physical education teacher at a school owned by a prominent educationist (Thiagarajan). Kanagavel hails from a loving middle-class family, including his caring mother, supportive father, and a younger sister. His mother’s concern for his well-being is heightened by a family astrologer’s warning about potential troubles indicated in his horoscope. She raises him to avoid conflict and refrain from questioning injustices.
Despite this upbringing, Kanagavel’s life takes a romantic turn when he falls in love with Vanathi, an English teacher at the same school. Their engagement is set, but the celebration is overshadowed by a tragic incident involving their neighbor’s daughter (Anikha Surendran). This pivotal moment propels the narrative into a deeper exploration of societal issues.
“PT Sir” aims to emphasize that victims of sexual crimes should not be blamed, and accountability must lie with the perpetrators. The film, like many focused on women’s empowerment, critiques societal tendencies to fault women for assaults and asserts that men should be held responsible for such crimes. A significant theme is the importance of a woman’s right to dress as she chooses.
The story unfolds at a pleasant pace initially, creating an engaging experience. Post-interval, the tone shifts to a more serious examination of the challenges women face in modern society.
The film’s music, composed by Hip Hop Tamizha, is exceptional. Each song resonates well, with potential to become a chartbuster due to their memorable quality. Aadhi delivers a convincing performance as Kanagavel, while Kashmira Pardeshi shines as the lively Vanathi, adding light-hearted moments to the film. Despite limited screen time, Pardeshi makes a significant impact.
Anikha Surendran, remembered for her role in Ajith’s “Yennai Arindhal,” excels in a challenging role, showcasing her acting prowess.
“PT Sir” captivates with its emphatic storytelling and holds the audience’s attention. It entertains while raising awareness about societal behaviors that inadvertently harm victims of sexual crimes, making it a thought-provoking and impactful film.
