President Droupadi Murmu to visit Vellore today
President Droupadi Murmu will visit Vellore in Tamil Nadu today. She will perform darshan and aarti at Sri Puram Golden Temple.
The President will inaugurate a meditation pavilion and plant a tree at the temple complex. Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan will welcome the President in Vellore.
The visit is part of her week-long tour of southern states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, from December 16 to 22.
According to preparations underway in Vellore, security has been intensified with over 1,000 police personnel deployed in and around the temple area.
Officials are conducting thorough checks on accommodations in Ariyur and nearby localities to ensure safety for the President’s visit.
President Murmu is expected to arrive by helicopter from Tirupati in the morning and will perform “darshan” and the opening ceremony of the meditation hall at the Golden Temple. After the event, she will depart by air for her next destination.
The visit will also see the presence of Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, who is scheduled to travel by road to Sri Puram to welcome the President. Traffic restrictions are likely along the Sri Puram–Ossur road during the period of the event.
President Murmu, who took office in July 2022 and is the first tribal woman to hold India’s highest constitutional post, has been engaging in official visits across the country, focusing on cultural, educational and developmental events.
