PM Modi welcomes implementation of India-UK trade and social security agreements

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the implementation of the India-United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) along with the bilateral Social Security Agreement, describing them as an important step in strengthening ties between the two countries.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said the agreements would create new opportunities for citizens and deepen economic cooperation. He noted that the trade pact would benefit farmers, entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by expanding access to the UK market.

Modi also said the Social Security Agreement would provide relief to Indian professionals on temporary assignments in the UK while improving the competitiveness of Indian businesses.

The Prime Minister added that the agreements reflect the growing trust between the two democracies and reinforce cooperation in areas including trade, investment, technology and innovation.

The India-UK free trade agreement came into effect on Wednesday, bringing tariff reductions across a range of goods and services. Signed last year, the pact is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade by 2030 while contributing to economic growth in both countries.
