PM Modi receives Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, India signs key deals at Jakarta

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the Bintang Adipurna, by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a ceremonial function at the Istana Merdeka Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

The honour recognises Modi’s role in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Indonesia and enhancing bilateral ties.

The Prime Minister received a ceremonial welcome before holding delegation-level talks with President Prabowo. Discussions covered cooperation in trade, defence, maritime security, digital technology, healthcare, education and cultural exchanges.

Following the talks, both countries signed several Memorandums of Understanding in areas including defence, agriculture, critical minerals, steel, maritime cooperation and emerging technologies.

Among the major announcements was the establishment of a branch campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore in Jakarta. The two nations also agreed to expand collaboration in manufacturing, food security and digital innovation.

During a joint media interaction, President Prabowo described India as a trusted strategic partner and expressed confidence in expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
