Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the 134th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat to address a range of issues, including rising temperatures across the country, water conservation, community service, sports achievements, and inspiring social initiatives.
A major focus of the address was the ongoing heatwave affecting several regions of India. The Prime Minister urged citizens to remain cautious during extreme weather conditions, stay hydrated, and follow safety guidelines issued by government agencies. He also encouraged people to look after vulnerable groups such as children, senior citizens, and those working outdoors, while extending help to anyone facing heat-related difficulties.
Speaking about ways to cope with the summer heat, Modi highlighted several traditional Indian beverages known for their cooling and hydrating properties. He referred to drinks popular across different regions of the country, including aam panna, lassi, buttermilk, sattu sharbat, kokum-based refreshments, sol kadhi, panakam, neer mor, sambaram, and bela panna, describing them as examples of India’s rich culinary traditions and practical summer wisdom.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of water conservation and called on citizens to contribute towards protecting natural resources through collective efforts and responsible usage.
During the programme, Modi shared stories of individuals making meaningful contributions to society. Among those mentioned was Tamil Nadu educator Girija Amma, whose efforts to encourage students to support the welfare of Indian soldiers were highlighted as an example of service-driven leadership and patriotism.
He also praised Kerala-based social worker and swimming instructor Saji Valasheril, who has reportedly helped thousands of specially-abled children and individuals learn swimming through community-focused initiatives. Modi described such efforts as examples of how individual commitment can positively impact society.
The Prime Minister additionally reflected on India’s achievements in sports and celebrated stories emerging from different parts of the country that showcase talent, perseverance, and community participation. He noted that such accomplishments continue to inspire younger generations.
Concluding the programme on a lighter note, Modi touched upon India’s fondness for mangoes during the summer season, highlighting the fruit’s cultural and emotional connection with households across the country.
