PM Modi calls for strong Centre-State partnership to achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presided over the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi, where he presented a long-term vision for transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
Held under the theme “Inclusive Human Development for Viksit Bharat@2047,” the meeting brought together Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, and Administrators from 28 states and five Union Territories. It marked the first time that all 28 state Chief Ministers participated in the Governing Council meeting, underscoring the spirit of cooperative federalism.
In his address, the Prime Minister said India remains one of the strongest-performing economies globally despite economic uncertainties affecting many countries. He stressed the importance of combining self-reliance with the adoption of successful international practices, particularly in emerging sectors such as renewable energy.
Modi highlighted that the goal of building a developed India should become a shared national mission extending beyond governments to every state, district, block, and village. He noted that meaningful progress towards the 2047 vision would require sustained collaboration between the Union government and the states.
Referring to India’s large youth population, the Prime Minister said that nearly 700 million citizens are under the age of 25 and described this demographic strength as a key driver of future growth. He urged states to invest in education, skill development, and capacity-building initiatives to ensure young people are equipped for emerging opportunities.
The Prime Minister also encouraged state governments to support entrepreneurs and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in leveraging the benefits of India’s recent trade agreements with various countries. He called on states to actively seek investments from nations that have entered into such partnerships with India.
On women’s empowerment, Modi reiterated the government’s focus on women-led development and urged states to work towards doubling the number of Lakhpati Didis from three crore to six crore. He further stressed the need to ensure safety and security for women, stating that their social and economic advancement would be central to India’s progress in the coming decades.
