“Peddi” Movie Review

“A journey from an unseen village to unforgettable glory.”

Peddi is an inspiring sports drama that beautifully blends emotion, ambition, and the quest for identity. Set against the backdrop of a remote village in the Vizianagaram district known as Kondakinda Ooru, the film tells a heartfelt story about recognition, self-respect, and the power of dreams. Backed by AR Rahman’s stirring music and featuring the first-ever pairing of Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film delivers an engaging cinematic experience.

The story revolves around a village of nearly 450 families that has long struggled for basic recognition. Trains pass through the area without stopping, symbolizing the neglect the villagers have faced for decades. Appala Suri (Jagapathi Babu) dedicates almost thirty years of his life fighting for a railway stop that could bring attention and development to the village.

At the center of the narrative is Peddi (Ram Charan), a gifted young cricketer who works in a jaggery unit while showcasing his sporting talent in local matches. Following a life-changing incident involving Appala Suri, Peddi realizes that achieving recognition for his village begins with earning recognition for himself. Determined to make a difference, he embarks on a challenging journey driven by passion, perseverance, and purpose.

Director Buchi Babu ambitiously combines cricket, wrestling, and running races into a single narrative, creating several emotionally uplifting and memorable moments. The sports sequences are mounted on a grand scale and effectively capture the spirit of determination and achievement. The film carries a strong message about pursuing dreams without delay and playing sports for pride, honor, and identity rather than material gain.

Ram Charan is undoubtedly the soul of the film, delivering a committed and powerful performance that reflects his dedication to the role. Jagapathi Babu adds emotional depth with a moving portrayal, while Shiva Rajkumar contributes significantly in his appearances. Janhvi Kapoor performs well within the scope of her role.

Technically, Peddi excels. R. Ratnavelu’s cinematography beautifully captures the rural landscape and sporting events, while AR Rahman’s music elevates the emotional and inspirational moments throughout. With impressive production values, energetic action sequences, and a meaningful core message, Peddi emerges as an emotionally rewarding sports drama celebrating identity, resilience, and the pursuit of recognition.
