Parking fees once again increased at Chennai airport.
Parking fees at Chennai Airport`s multilevel parking facility have been revised upward, leaving passengers and vehicle drivers frustrated over the sudden increase.
This marks the second hike in parking charges within two years, with the changes implemented from the early hours of today without prior notice.
The minimum parking fee for cars has been raised from Rs. 80 to Rs. 85 for half an hour, while the maximum 24-hour fee has increased from Rs. 525 to Rs. 550. For tempo vans, the minimum charge has gone up from Rs. 315 to Rs. 330, and the 24-hour fee has been raised from Rs. 1,050 to Rs. 1,110.
Similarly, parking charges for buses and trucks have seen significant increases. The minimum fee has risen from Rs. 630 to Rs. 660, while the 24-hour charge has gone up from Rs. 2,100 to Rs. 2,205. Even two-wheelers have not been exempt, with the fee for one to two hours increased from Rs. 30 to Rs. 35, and the 24-hour fee hiked from Rs. 95 to Rs. 100.
The sudden hike in parking fees follows another contentious decision made last August, where the pick-up point for passenger vehicles was relocated to the second floor of the multilevel parking facility, one kilometer away from the terminal. This shift, like the latest increase in charges, was implemented without advance notice, drawing strong criticism from passengers and vehicle operators.
