“Nooru Sami” Movie Review

Director Sasi lets entertainment carry the message with warmth and humour

Director Sasi once again proves that meaningful stories need not be wrapped in heavy-handed drama. In Nooru Sami, he takes a sensitive subject and presents it with warmth, humour and plenty of heart, making the message feel natural and relatable.

The film revolves around Selvi (Swasika), a woman who has devoted her life to raising her two sons, Bhaskar (Ajay Dhishan) and Vivek, all by herself. Just when life seems settled, Selvi expresses a simple desire—to marry again. What begins as an unexpected announcement soon turns into an emotional journey, as her sons struggle to come to terms with the idea and eventually learn to put their mother’s happiness ahead of their own prejudices.

Reuniting with Vijay Antony nearly ten years after Pichaikkaran, Sasi creates a familiar village backdrop but avoids the clichés often associated with such dramas. Instead of relying on loud emotions and over-the-top conflicts, he keeps the proceedings light, entertaining and grounded. Even when traditions and societal pressures threaten to stand in the way, the film never loses its warmth and optimism.

The supporting characters add colour to the narrative, especially Balaji Sakthivel as the mischievous Pachaiperumal, whose constant interference provides several engaging moments. A quirky subplot involving a YouTuber family also works surprisingly well and adds freshness to the story.

Swasika delivers a wonderful performance, beautifully portraying Selvi’s pain, resilience and quiet dignity. Vijay Antony appears prominently in the latter portions as Ezhumalai and brings an easy charm and sincerity to the role. Ajay Dhishan shines as the impulsive son who gradually matures, while the rest of the cast provide solid support.

Nooru Sami may be a simple film, but it stands out because of its honesty and emotional depth. Sasi delivers an entertaining family drama that speaks about love, acceptance and second chances without ever sounding preachy, making the film both enjoyable and memorable.
