Nitin Nabin takes charge as BJP president, youngest to lead party

Nitin Nabin formally assumed the post of National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday.

In his new role, the 45-year-old succeeded JP Nadda, who is currently a Union minister.

The change-of-guard is taking place at the BJP headquarters in Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and several other senior party leaders.

Ahead of officially taking up the job, Nabin visited multiple renowned temples in Delhi, including the Jhandewalan temple, the Valmiki temple, and the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place. He also visited Gurdwara Bangla Sahib.

He was accompanied by Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, and Delhi Minister Parvesh Saheb Singh Verma during his visit to the religious sites.

Nabin has been provided with Z-category security by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), sources within the ministry told India Today. The Z-category security detail consists of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos.

According to sources, the incoming BJP chief was granted Z-category security only a few days ago on the basis of the Intelligence Bureau’s (IB’s) threat perception report.
