Nirangal Moondru by Karthick Naren is an intriguing film that explores the shades of human nature through a gripping narrative. Set during a single night, it weaves together the lives of three individuals whose paths intersect in unexpected ways, unveiling their hidden facets.

The film introduces Vasanth (Rahman), a beloved teacher with a dark secret, Selvam (Sarath Kumar), a corrupt yet devoted father, and Vetri (Atharvaa), an aspiring filmmaker battling personal demons. Each character carries complexities that challenge first impressions. The story kicks off when Shree, Vasanth’s student, witnesses his love interest Parvathy (Ammu Abirami) being pulled into a van. What follows is a chain of events revealing the interplay of good, bad, and morally grey actions.

Vasanth’s protective nature toward Shree contrasts with his darker instincts. Selvam’s corruption as a cop is offset by his dedication as a father, while Vetri’s struggles with addiction add layers to his character. The film delves into the relationship dynamics, such as Shree’s unspoken affection for Parvathy and Vasanth’s mentorship, creating emotional depth.

Visually, Nirangal Moondru is a standout. Despite its limited locations, the atmospheric lighting and skillful camerawork draw the audience into the unfolding drama. The absence of commercial songs allows the background score to heighten the tension, immersing viewers in the story.

The performances are commendable. Rahman’s portrayal of a dual-faced teacher is convincing, while Sarath Kumar balances authority and vulnerability. Atharvaa captures the youthful recklessness of Vetri, though his drug-induced sequences could have been trimmed for a tighter narrative.

While the film impresses with its technical finesse and some clever dialogues, its exploration of human nature could have been more nuanced. The abrupt shifts in character arcs feel slightly forced, and certain tropes, like Selvam’s revenge subplot, lean toward predictability. However, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise engaging film.

Overall, Nirangal Moondru is a thought-provoking thriller that combines strong performances with an intriguing premise. Though not flawless, its attempt to dissect human nature amidst a tense backdrop makes it a worthwhile watch.
