NIA sleuths conduct search at houses of NTK functionaries with suspected links to LTTE

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday carried out searches at the residences of some members of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) party at several places in Tamil Nadu.

The NIA said in a statement that it seized one laptop, seven mobile phones, eight SIM/memory cards and four pen drives, along with incriminating documents and books related to Sri Lankan militant group LTTE and its self-styled slain supremo Prabhakaran.

The searches were conducted in several cities, including Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Tenkasi and Sivaganga, over alleged attempts to revive the Sri Lankan militant group LTTE and receive foreign funding for anti-national activities.

NTK functionary and YouTuber Saatai Duraimurugan has also come under the NIA scanner.

“The case was originally registered by TN Police following the apprehension of two men, identified as Naveen Chakravorty and Sanjay Prakash, during vehicle checking at Puliyampatti division, Salem, on 19th May 2022. They were arrested after being found in possession of two pistols, ammunition, and gun powder,” the NIA said in the statement.

The NIA further said that investigations revealed that both of them were “inspired by the LTTE” and wanted to establish an outfit similar to the LTTE and “wage an armed struggle in Tamil Nadu”. Another accused, Kabilan, was also arrested in this case, the NIA said.

Meanwhile, NTK functionaries have approached the Madras High Court against the searches.
