NE monsoon likely to being in 4th week of October: RMC

The Regional Meteorological Department on Thursday stated that this year’s northeast monsoon is likely to start in the 4th week of October.

S Balachandran, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, RMC, said that as per current predictions and weather forecast, the monsoon would commence during the last week of this month and is expected to be normal with more number of cyclonic formations.

The RMC on Thursday stated that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of Tamil Nadu, with an isolated thunderstorm and lightning for the next 2-3 days.

Meanwhile, Kancheepuram and Ranipet received 7 cm rainfall, which is the highest in the State, until Thursday morning. Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Vellore, Salem, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Dharmapuri and Kancheepuram received 6 cm each. For the next 48 hours, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Perambalur, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tirupattur, Ranipet and Mayiladuthurai on Friday.

An upper air circulation is expected from October 9.
