Nana Patekar’s death sparks tributes from Modi, Rajinikanth and film fraternity
News of veteran actor Nana Patekar’s reported death on Thursday prompted tributes from political leaders, actors and members of the entertainment industry, who recalled his performances and contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema.
According to the account provided by hospital doctor Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital, Patekar, aged 75, died at his residence in Goa at around 5.20 am after suffering cardiac arrest. Medical staff reportedly attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation for approximately 45 minutes but were unable to revive him.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the actor in a post on X, praising his distinctive screen presence, versatility and contribution to Indian cinema. Modi said Patekar had created memorable characters and noted that his passing would leave a significant void. He also offered condolences to the actor’s family, friends and admirers.
Superstar Rajinikanth expressed disbelief over the news, remembering Patekar as a close friend. In his message on X, the Tamil superstar conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the actor’s soul to rest in peace.
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief, describing the news as deeply distressing. He said Patekar’s performances had left a lasting impression on Indian cinema and audiences.
Music composer A. R. Rahman joined those mourning the actor, sharing a message of condolence and extending his sympathies to Patekar’s family and loved ones.
