Muthumani brings a fresh Ilaiyaraaja sound to Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy
The second single from Karthik Subbaraj’s upcoming film Dorothy, titled Muthumani, has been released and is drawing attention for its electronic and trance-inspired sound.
The song features music and lyrics by Ilaiyaraaja, who also performs it with singer Shweta Mohan. The track reportedly marks the veteran composer’s 1,540th film composition.
The accompanying video, directed by Bharath Muralidharan, features Ilaiyaraaja and Shweta Mohan along with appearances from lead actor Keerthy Suresh.
The makers had previously unveiled Kalyana Virundhu as the film’s first single. Muthumani has since generated enthusiastic reactions from listeners, particularly for its blend of contemporary electronic elements with Indian musical influences.
Dorothy is set in rural India during the early 1990s. Director Karthik Subbaraj has described the film as a story centred on friendship, compassion and hope while dealing with issues such as caste, violence and prejudice.
Keerthy Suresh leads the cast, with Rishikanth and Sananth also appearing in important roles. Karthik Subbaraj is producing the film through Dhammam Films, alongside Guneet Monga and Aachin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios.
Dorothy is scheduled for a September 25 theatrical release and will also receive its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
