Mumbai Sets Historic Guinness World Record™ for World’s Largest Generative AI Hackathon, Overtakes London
Mumbai beats London & sets milestone for India tech on the Global AI map with 1460 participants at the MumbaiHacks Hackathon
Mumbai & India have officially secured their place on the global AI map by hosting MumbaiHacks, the world’s largest generative AI hackathon, bringing together 1460 participants to redefine the future of AI. This achievement sets a new world record for the most participants in a Gen AI hackathon, propelling India to the forefront of AI innovation.The hackathon, co-hosted by the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM) and Made in Mumbai, in collaboration with industry giants like Meta, NVIDIA, Quantiphi, and ATLAS SkillTech University, was held over two-days, October 25th and 26th at ATLAS SkillTech University in BKC, Mumbai.
1460 hackers were selected to participate out of nearly 3,000 registrations. This remarkable hackathon set a world record for the Most Participants in a Generative AI Hackathon, officially recognized by Guinness World Records™.This achievement underscores Mumbai’s position as a global hub for tech talent and a key player in the Generative AI ecosystem. Google Cloud and Formula E had previously set the record for the largest Generative AI hackathon, drawing 1,130 participants in London on July 19, 2024.
MumbaiHacks, held on the heels of NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s milestone visit to Mumbai, brought together a diverse group of developers, engineers, and innovators solving some of the most urgent global challenges. The hackathon received an impressive 398 project submissions including innovative ideas like AI-powered financial inclusion platforms and AI-driven public safety systems. With a ₹12 lakh prize pool, mentorship opportunities, and a platform for teams to pitch their ideas to a panel of industry and tech leaders, each team showcased AI-driven solutions that stood out for their ingenuity, scalability, and potential to make a significant impact—setting a new benchmark in India’s generative AI landscape. With support and guidance from over 50 industry mentors and support from prominent tech communities including Faiz Malkani’s Made in Mumbai, participants gained unparalleled insights and expertise, fuelling transformative ideas and driving high-impact solutions across critical sectors.

- Mozoop: Personalized, AI-powered movie trailers
- Educare: Surgical training in AR with an AI assistant

- Mercury: AI-powered productivity management system for remote workers
- TrendPulse: Demand forecasting for businesses with AI
