More than one lakh cops deputed across Tamil Nadu for Independence Day security
The Tamil Nadu police have deployed over one lakh personnel across the state to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration of India’s Independence Day.
The unprecedented deployment covers all major cities, towns, and sensitive areas, with a multi-layered security blanket thrown around key venues, including Fort St. George in Chennai.
As the state gears up for the 77th Independence Day, the Tamil Nadu police department has left no stone unturned in its efforts to maintain law and order. A comprehensive security plan has been put into action, focusing on preventative measures, heightened vigilance, and rapid response capabilities.
Chennai, the state capital, is under particularly tight security, with approximately 9,100 police personnel stationed across the city. Fort St. George, the historic landmark where Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is scheduled to hoist the national flag, is under a five-tier security cover. This includes armed reserves, special forces, and personnel equipped with advanced surveillance technology.
Beyond the capital, all district police units have significantly increased their presence. Strategic deployments are in place at vital installations such as airports, railway stations, and bus terminuses. Public spaces like shopping malls, religious sites, and other areas prone to large gatherings are also under close watch.
“The safety and security of our citizens is our paramount concern,” stated a senior police official. “We have mobilized our entire force, along with personnel from other law enforcement agencies, to ensure that the Independence Day celebrations pass off without any untoward incidents.”
