“Messenger ” Movie Review

Messenger – A Love Beyond Life

The film Messenger begins with Sriram Karthik, a heartbroken young man who decides to end his life after a failed romance. Just as he is about to commit suicide, his Facebook Messenger starts pinging with messages. One message stands out — “Don’t commit suicide, there are many people who love you on this earth.” The shocking twist is that the woman who sent this message had died two months ago.

Intrigued and disturbed, Sriram sets out to uncover how a dead person could send him a message. His search unravels mysterious truths and unexpected turns that question life, death, and love itself. The film subtly conveys the message that love transcends human understanding — “This is not human love for humans to understand.”

Sriram Karthik delivers a strong performance, balancing emotional depth with intensity. His portrayal shows that Tamil cinema has new heroes capable of carrying complex roles with conviction. Manisha Sri, playing the hero’s ex-lover, does her part effectively and even steps out of her comfort zone for certain scenes. Fatima, as the second heroine, impresses with her natural performance and innocent charm that suits her village-girl role. Vaishali Ravichandran initially raises expectations as Fatima’s friend but fades midway through the film. Supporting actors like Jeeva Ravi, Livingston, and Priyadarshini fit their roles well.

Music composer Abubakkar M enhances the emotional flow of the film through pleasant background scores that complement the mood, even if not particularly memorable. Editor Prashanth R deserves credit for maintaining the rhythm and coherence in a story that blends horror, mystery, and romance. Cinematographer Bala Ganesan R captures rural backdrops beautifully, giving the film a grounded visual texture.

Director Ramesh Ilangamani delivers an imaginative story that begins as a horror film but evolves into a soulful exploration of unseen love. Though the concept stretches realism, the film stands out for its unique theme and emotional sincerity.

Overall, Messenger is a heartfelt attempt to portray that true love has no boundaries — not even death.
