“Marutham” Movie Review
A Heartfelt Rural Drama.
Marutham is a poignant and gripping rural drama that delves deep into the life of Kanniyappan (Vidaarth), a hardworking farmer whose world shatters when he loses his ancestral land to a fraudulent bank loan. Determined to reclaim what rightfully belongs to him, Kanniyappan sets out on a journey to expose the corruption behind the bank’s deceit. What follows is an emotional and intense courtroom battle that keeps the audience thoroughly engaged till the end.
Vidaarth delivers one of his most powerful performances, portraying Kanniyappan’s pain, frustration, and resilience with remarkable authenticity. His portrayal of a farmer fighting against injustice strikes a deep emotional chord. Rakshana, as his supportive wife Chinthamalli, lends warmth and realism to the story, her chemistry with Vidaarth adding heart to the narrative. The supporting cast—Aruldoss as the shrewd trader Kathirvel and Saravanan Subbiah as the manipulative bank manager—bring strength and credibility to their roles, elevating the tension in every scene.
The technical aspects of Marutham further enhance its emotional impact. N. R. Raghunandan’s music beautifully complements the film’s mood, while Arul K. Somasundaram’s cinematography captures both the rustic charm of the countryside and the intensity of the courtroom sequences. Editor Sandru maintains a brisk pace, ensuring that the film never loses focus, and art director Thamu enriches every frame with authenticity.
Director V. Gajendran, himself a farmer and college professor, infuses the film with sincerity and realism, drawing inspiration from true events. His storytelling effectively highlights the harsh realities faced by farmers trapped in the cycle of debt and exploitation. Marutham stands out as a socially relevant film that combines strong performances with a meaningful message, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.
