“Makkal Thalaiva” Movie Review

“A satirical journey into the game of politics and power.”

As the title itself suggests, this film is a political satire that presents contemporary politics with humor, drama, and thought-provoking moments.

The story opens with the introduction of millionaire Pachamuthu Palanimanickam, a loyal follower of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dharmaraj, a character who evokes memories of legendary leaders. At the same time, ordinary people are seen struggling to make a living, and Tamil Nagarikan, played by Ravi Mariya, earns his livelihood by acting as a mediator for those seeking solutions.

Businessman Radha Ravi decides to enter the political arena and begins an interesting game of strategy. With his support, Ravi Mariya, who starts as an actor before stepping into politics, announces several action plans and contests the elections. Radha Ravi also joins the party, adding more excitement to the proceedings.

Just before the elections, Ravi Mariya meets with an accident and leaves for treatment abroad. This creates uncertainty about who would become the Chief Minister if the party emerges victorious. To solve the issue, the party launches an innovative “You Too Can Become CM” campaign, allowing one among the people to be chosen as the leader.

The remainder of the film revolves around the suspense of who eventually becomes the Chief Minister and the hidden motives behind Radha Ravi’s political moves. His character, despite appearing strategic, reveals deeper layers that keep the audience engaged.

Ravi Mariya, widely known for his comic performances, makes his debut as a lead actor and delivers an entertaining performance. Veteran actor Radha Ravi impresses with his experience and commanding screen presence, often emerging as one of the strongest highlights of the film. Real-life political personalities Karuppiah and Nanjil Sampath add authenticity and enhance the political flavor of the story.

Cinematography by Karthik S. Nair and music by Thulasi Raman complement the narrative effectively. Writer-director Ramdev crafts a story inspired by different phases of Tamil Nadu politics, presenting them with satire and drama. The film ultimately highlights the realities of electoral politics and encourages viewers to think about the changing nature of political campaigns in today’s world.
