Madras High Court grants bail in alleged AI video scam involving Vijay
The Madras High Court has granted conditional bail to a Rajasthan resident accused of using artificially generated videos impersonating Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to allegedly deceive people online.
According to the prosecution, Shyabu Khan created manipulated videos featuring the Chief Minister and uploaded them to Facebook to attract people seeking assistance. He allegedly operated two accounts named “All India Help Vijay Thalapati” and “All India Help”.
Investigators claim that the videos encouraged viewers to contact him for help and pay registration fees, forming part of an alleged online fraud.
Police arrested Khan on September 12, 2026, following a complaint. The case includes charges under Sections 204, 318(2), 319(2), 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act.
Khan subsequently approached the Madras High Court seeking bail. Justice N Ramesh granted relief subject to conditions, taking note of the period he had spent in judicial custody, the completion of the investigation, the preparation of the chargesheet and the seizure of the mobile phone allegedly used in the offence.
As part of the bail conditions, Khan must report daily to the Deputy Superintendent of Police at the CB-CID Cyber Crime Cell. The allegations remain subject to the legal process.
