Director Chimbu Deven is a name to reckon with films with different concepts. The blockbuster ‘Imsai Arasan 23-am Pulikesi’ starring Vadivelu and produced by Director Shankar; ‘Puli’ starring Vijay, Sri Devi and Kiccha Sudeep; ‘Arai Enn 305-il Kadavul’ with Prakash Raj, Santhanam, and Ganja Karupu in lead roles; and ‘Irumbukkottai Muratu Singam’ which showcased Raghava Lawrence in a new dimension are among his notable works. Last year, his ‘Kasadathapara’ won several awards for best screenplay.
Chimbu Deven, who made successful films in genres such as historical and fantasy, is currently directing a pan-India film.
Produced by Prabha Premkumar on Maali & Manvi Movie Makers banner, the film titled ‘Boat’ has been shot entirely in the sea on a huge budget. Starring Yogi Babu, Gouri G Kishan and other popular actors, the film is being made simultaneously in five languages namely Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
A completely different concept, ‘Boat’ is set in the backdrop of 1940s. When Japan bombed Chennai, 10 people escape into the sea on a small boat, fearing for their lives. Unexpectedly, the boat stops in the middle of the sea.
The boat develops a hole and sinks slowly. Adding more to the tension, a big shark surrounds the boat. How the people on the boat escape forms the crux of the story. The movie, which is shot entirely in the sea, will be a mix of thrill, action and political comedy.
Madhesh Manickam has handled the cinematography of ‘Boat’, which has music composed by Ghibran. Editing is by Dinesh and production design by T Santhanam. According to the production company, ‘Boat’ will be released in five languages in February.
