LPG tanker lorries call of strike

The indefinite strike by the Southern Region Bulk LPG Tanker Owners Association was called off on the fourth day on Sunday night after oil firms agreed to their main demands.

“We called off the strike after oil firms assured to meet our demands and in the interest of the public,” said association president Sundarrajan.

The association commenced the indefinite strike on Thursday morning, seeking withdrawal of the new contract regulations imposed by the oil firms. Namakkal has around 4,000 trucks transporting gas from ports to the bottling facilities of Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

The new contract regulations had imposed a ban on the use of two-axle trucks and a fine of Rs20,000 for not having a backup driver or cleaner. It also said the trucks involved in minor accidents will be barred from the tender process for three years.
