Low-Pressure area to bring heavy rain to Tamil Nadu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to influence weather conditions in Tamil Nadu from tomorrow, Jan 8, bringing the chance of heavy rainfall, especially along the coastal and delta regions.

The system formed due to an upper air cyclonic circulation and has strengthened into a well-marked low-pressure area, which may further organise into a depression as it moves northwestward over the bay.

According to weather officials, coastal districts and delta zones of the state can expect rainfall with occasional heavy spells in the coming days, with the system affecting conditions through Jan 9 and 10.

Meteorologists have also noted that rain and thunderstorms are possible in several parts of Tamil Nadu as the system continues to influence the region’s weather pattern.

Residents have been advised to stay updated with forecasts, as rainfall intensity could increase temporarily, impacting outdoor activities and travel plans.

Fishermen and coastal communities in particular are urged to remain cautious due to expected changes in wind and sea conditions associated with the developing system over the Bay of Bengal.
