KVN Productions founder appointed Tamil Nadu special representative in Delhi

The Tamil Nadu government’s decision to appoint film producer and distributor K Venkata Narayana as its Special Representative in New Delhi has triggered political debate, with opposition parties questioning the choice.

Narayana, founder of Bengaluru-based KVN Productions, is producing Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan, whose release has reportedly been delayed due to certification issues.

The state government issued an order appointing Narayana to the post for a one-year term from the date he assumes office or until the requirement for the position ends, whichever comes first. Detailed terms of the appointment are expected to be announced separately.

The Special Representative serves as a link between the Tamil Nadu government and the Union government, coordinating with central ministries on projects, funding, approvals and policy matters, besides representing the state in official discussions held in New Delhi.

The appointment has drawn criticism because Narayana does not have a significant political background. Opposition leaders have also questioned the decision in the context of the ongoing water-sharing issues between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The state already operates a Liaison Wing at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi, which performs similar coordination functions.
