Kriti Sanon hits back at outfit criticism after Raksha Bandhan ad controversy

Actor Kriti Sanon has questioned the criticism directed at her clothing in a Raksha Bandhan advertisement, arguing that women’s choices of attire should not determine how their cultural values are judged.

The controversy erupted after a jewellery company’s festive advertisement showed Kriti tying a rakhi to her pet dog before doing the same for her brother.

Some social media users objected to the ivory bralette-style blouse, long skirt and shrug she wore in the advertisement.

The debate intensified after BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut criticised the campaign, describing it as deliberately inappropriate and questioning the styling chosen for the festival.

Kriti later addressed the issue through a statement on Instagram. She questioned why women continue to be told what they should wear and argued that traditional fashion has changed over time.

She also said that cultural identity and respect for traditions should not be determined by a woman’s clothing or neckline.

Kriti’s sister Nupur Sanon also defended her, saying she had no issue with whatever Kriti chose to wear while celebrating Raksha Bandhan with her brother.

Despite the response from the sisters, the jewellery brand decided to remove the advertisement on August 26. The company said it took the step after realising that the campaign had unintentionally hurt the sentiments of some people.
