Kodanad murder: Nilgiris district police submits report to Magistrate

The Nilgiris district police submitted an inquiry report on the sensational Kodanad heist-cum-murder case, in a sealed cover to District Judge cum Chief Judicial Magistrate P Murugan on Monday.

The inquiry report running for around 1,500 pages had statements of around 316 witnesses, including VK Sasikala, a close aide of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa. It was handed over to the court by ADSP Krishnamurthy.

The development comes in the wake of the case being shifted to CB-CID for further probe. The CB-CID is likely to receive the inquiry report and move ahead with its further investigation. The entire case was taken up for investigation afresh after the DMK came to power.

A gang broke into the Kodanad estate bungalow of Jayalalithaa following her demise and looted valuables after murdering the security guard Ohm Bahadur on April 23, 2017, when Edappadi K Palaniswami was the Chief Minister. Within a few days after the incident, C Kanagaraj, former driver of Jayalalithaa died mysteriously in a road accident. Another accused KV Sayan had a narrow escape in a road accident, while his wife and daughter died. A CCTV operator also died in the estate.
